Panasonic has just released the next generation of UniPhier that takes advantage of MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, a next-generation codec. This tiny chip is more than capable of compressing full-HD large image data down to approximately one third to half that of the conventional methods without sacrificing high level definition. Not only that, the recordable time has been extended significantly for the same media, this new UniPhier also works well in realizing smooth image data communication. Approximately 250 million transistors have been crammed onto a single chip to achieve such performance figures. This new Panasonic UniPhier system LSI utilizes the efficient 45nm process technology to produce a much higher integration density compared to previous attempts.
